Graduation and Beyond: Next Steps for Young Adults

Graduation is an important milestone for youth and young adults. It marks the end of one stage of life, and the start of something new. While graduation can feel exciting, it can also bring questions and uncertainty about what comes next.

What are Post-Graduation Plans?

After graduation, many young adults begin thinking about their future goals. Some may continue their education, look for a job, learn independent living skills, or explore new opportunities. Everyone’s path is different, and it is okay to take things one step at a time.

Post-graduation plans are the goals and steps a person intends to take after finishing high school or college. These plans may include going to college, starting a job, entering a training program, joining the military, or taking time to decide what to do next. Vassar College, a liberal arts college based in the state of New York, has asked a few of their students about their future plans.

Ramapo's Recommended Graduation Plans

For young adults with disabilities, the transition into adulthood may come with extra challenges. Learning how to ask for support, use accommodations, and make important decisions can help build confidence and independence. Having the right resources and support system can make this transition easier.

Ramapo College's My Graduation Plan is a tool that is designed to help students stay on track for graduation, by providing recommended four-year course plans for Ramapo College majors. It shows suggested class schedules for each major, organized by the year a student started, and breaks them down semester by semester. It also includes plans for special programs like pre-med and education. The plans are meant to be a guide, and students are still expected to meet with an advisor to make sure they are taking the right classes.
