Self-expression is important for a healthy mindset and to create connections. Social media serves as a prime example of expression through the internet. YouTube has evolved into a platform for creativity with a limitless audience.

How to Start Your YouTube Channel


YouTube accounts are channels, serving as specific sources of content from a creator. Tools such as the username, channel description, video library, playlists, and community posts are housed under a YouTuber's channel.


What is the first step to creating a channel? YouTube provides a specific guide for new creators to establish themselves on the platform. Key aspects include identifying your interests, customizing your channel, and learning about the necessary equipment, all of which help tailor a channel to interact with its audience.

What Makes a Good Channel?

YouTube serves as a resource hub for a diverse range of creators. Whether they are new channels or experienced YouTubers, a common question arises: What makes certain channels successful over others?

Check out the website Yoast, which features a blog post examining how creators can build a community of loyal subscribers while consistently attracting new viewers over time. These YouTubers employ trends, current events, humor, and more to engage an audience, making them eager to watch and support the content they create.

A Channel Guide for Beginners

An example of an experienced YouTuber is Primal Video, a channel specializing in assisting and advising content creators and entertainers. They offer guides on topics ranging from video editing to recommended cameras, microphones, and other equipment. Additionally, they provide a beginner's guide for potential YouTubers, featuring tips for making a channel stand out and gain popularity.

The LifeCourse Nexus is working with national partners to create Health Care Transition resources to support youth and young adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). The goal is supporting youth and young adults with I/DD to learn about leading their own health care as they move into adulthood. The resources include Health Care Transition Kits that each explore a topic. This work is part of the Center for Transition to Adult Health Care for Youth with Disabilities, led by Family Voices.


Participation Involves:

  • Attending 8 virtual meetings (approximately 90 minutes each) between July 2024 and April 2025.
  • Reviewing a kit in between meetings.
  • Providing feedback on each kit during meetings.
  • A $100 stipend for each kit reviewed, for up to 6 kits

  • Understanding Health Care Transition
  • Knowing About Your Health Care
  • Leading Day to Day Health Care Routines
  • Leading Your Health Care Visits and Interactions
  • Understanding Your Legal Rights in Health Care Settings Planning for Moving to Adult Health Care
