The Youth Development Initiative (YDI) Featuring Resources on Motivation

Motivation can achieve confidence, strength, and other positive benefits. So being an empowering youth means finding the inspiration to take steps into advocacy, discovery, and new challenges like work, school, or other social aspects of your life. We are calling people of all ages to become motivated to participate in, encourage, or share the Youth Development Initiative (YDI)!

The Youth Development Initiative (YDI)

The Center for Transition to Adult Health Care for Youth with Disabilities would like to share this exciting new opportunity for youth with disabilities. This opportunity will allow youth (ages 12-17) to understand healthcare transition and gain advocacy skills and mentorship from people who identify and have life experience with disabilities.

We are Looking for Youth to Join the Youth Development Initiative (YDI).

What is the YDI: This group will receive training and mentoring to help youth understand healthcare transition at an early age. They will be mentored by young adults who have learned leadership and advocacy skills.

Who Should Apply? Young people (ages 12 – 17) with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who are ready to learn about healthcare transition, self-advocacy, and getting ready for adulthood.

YDI members will:

Learn from other young adults about healthcare transition.

Meet peers and make friends.

Learn about being an advocate for themselves and others with disabilities.

About Our Center

The Center for Transition to Adult Health Care for Youth with Disabilities helps youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caregivers to take control of their healthcare. This Center provides resources, information, and support for moving to adulthood.

Health Care Transition and Youth

Health care transition can begin at any age but usually during the teenage years. The Center for Transition to Adult Health Care for Youth with Disabilities starts with young people and their ideas about healthcare transition. We want people with disabilities to live as independent and healthy lives as they choose.
