ASAN 101

This week, guest speaker Noor Pervez was on the chat to discuss the Autistic Self Advocacy Network or ASAN. ASAN's goals include advancing the rights of individuals with autism and discussing trending issues and topics in the world today. Let's learn more about ASAN in today's new post, "ASAN 101."

Taken from the Our Mission section on ASAN's About page:

"The Autistic Self Advocacy Network seeks to advance the principles of the disability rights movement about autism. ASAN believes that the goal of autism advocacy should be a world in which autistic people enjoy equal access, rights, and opportunities. We work to empower autistic people across the world to take control of our own lives and the future of our common community. We seek to organize the autistic community to ensure our voices are heard in the national conversation about us. Nothing About Us, Without Us!"

The Action Center

If you are interested in working towards more inclusivity for autistic people, then the Action Center is a great page to check out. You can find many tools to help get you started, including Issue Tracking, Find My Elected Official, Action Alerts, and more. These tools allow you to learn more about issues and conversations regarding the autistic community.

PADSA (Pacific Alliance on Disability Self-Advocacy) was a project run by the Autistic Self Advocacy Network. While PADSA has since been disbanded, the resources collected by the project members may still be helpful to some. These resources range from guides about working with advisors and others to learning about conflict resolution, a topic we've Chatted about on the Hub before.
