Famous Americans With Disabilities

Happy 4th Of July! America turns 246 this year, and to celebrate, we thought it would be cool to look at some of the historical figures that helped make America so great today. Many of these figures despite having disabilities, managed to become some of the most influential people in American history, and are still beloved and examined today.

Throughout American history, there have been plenty of people with disabilities who have helped to shape the modern USA. These patriots were inventors, artists, activists, and even the president. Much like our celebrity list below, we've discovered a great list of 15 men and women who had lasting effects on U.S history.

When talking about famous people, it's kinda hard to not include actors and actresses. Of course, just like us, many of these stars have physical and/or mental disabilities, which certainly hasn't effected their careers on the big screen. Thanks to JosephMaley.org, we we have an awesome list of 10 American celebrities who have disabilities (you might be surprised by who you see.)

Becoming A Young Mental Health Leader

In place of our normal weekly activity, we decided to instead focus on a special resource that we'd like to share. If you've ever wanted to make a difference for those with disabilities, while also sharing your own personal stories, then check out this application for becoming a Young Mental Health Leader. Taken from the Mental Health America website:

"YMHLC (Young Mental Health Leaders Council) identifies young adults (ages 18-25) who have created programs and initiatives that fill gaps in mental health resources in their communities. From policy to apps and peer support to sports, MHA’s young adult leaders are making a difference to meet the needs of their peers. Selected applicants participate in a six-month cohort to connect and share ideas with other leaders from across the U.S."
