Getting Enough Sleep

We all need good sleep to think straight, focus on work/school, and stay healthy, both mentally and physically. And if we don't get enough good sleep at night, we can suffer some pretty bad health effects, including some long-term sicknesses. In this short YouTube video, sleep expert Matthew Walker details all the health issues that can come from a lack of good sleep.

10 Ways To Get A Good Night's Rest

For youth, it's critical to get a good sleep every night, but studies show that many young adults and high schoolers like to look at their phone screen late at night instead of sleeping. It's a bad habit that can be tricky to break, however we found a few tips that should help with that. This blog post from Michigan Health shows 10 ways to avoid being tempted with looking at your phone late at night; these tips range from charging your phone in another room, to avoiding procrastination, to simply keeping a solid sleep schedule.

Our last resource for this week comes all the way from Australia. raisingchildren.net.au is an Australian parenting website, and today we were able to find a list full of sleeping tips like before but focused more on children and younger kids. Even though, most of these tips are aimed towards kids, they can still be applied to young adults as well. Some tips like making sure there isn't too much light or noise in your room, or just relaxing a little before bedtime.

Do you think you get enough sleep? If so, how do you avoid staying up late? Let us know in the comments below! For youth and young adults, ages 13-26, join us on the SPAN Youth Chat on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:00 PM.
